Katie's Spanish Holiday

A Gibson Family tradition seemed to have started when I was a senior in high school and went on a student trip to Europe. Courtney then reached that age and so she wanted to take the same student trip (and luckily I got to tag along!) and we went to Greece and Turkey.

So when our little brother reached his senior year of high school, it was his turn. Unfortunately, the teacher that Court and I went with no longer took a groups to Europe, and that's when Courtney and I offered to take Ross instead!

Although Ross really wanted to go to New Zealand, we had to nix the idea. 1. Courtney and I work and couldn't take off enough time for such an adventure 2. Its winter there right now!

So we ended up spending a week in Spain! Ross's childhood friend Garic came with us also, and so the Gibson sibilings headed across the Atlantic. We spent 3 days in Madrid, then 3 in Barcelona. It was my first time in Madrid and although there wasn't a TON to see and do, it was very lovely! We did lots of walking around and it was a great city to be a local in. It wasn't very touristy and we had to put our Spanish skills to use quite a bit. We took a day trip to Toledo which the boys really liked. My favorite thing about Madrid was rowing a boat in the lake in El Parque de Retiro.

In Barcelona, we spent lots of time at the city beach and took a great bike tour with Fat Tire Bike Tour. Unfortunately, no association with Fat Tire Beer... The coolest thing in Barcelona was the seafood! and seeing the steps that Christopher Columbus walked on when visiting Isabella & Ferdinand. We had a great time! But I was missing Grey and was ready to come home.

We love Lemon Fanta!

Taking train from Madrid to Barcelona @ 300 km/hr - Looked like New Mexico!

Courtney and I enjoying the very-late setting sun on the balcony of our hot and noisey hostel room.

We like to row boats in the park!

Outside La Segrada Familia - note: last time I was there, the whole part on the right wasn't there. Cool, huh!

Some quality family time on the beach in matching sunglasses. Precious, isn't it?

Best meal of the trip! Last night, delicious paella & sangria. Best seafood I've ever had...
